Why Choose a Christian Preschool?

You’re here because you’re stumped, you’re uncertain. The decision of where to send your child to preschool is overwhelming. You have nearly unlimited options, and you’re expected to pick the best fit for your child on the first go around. How could you possibly decide?

We’re here to help you narrow down your search in at least one area: Why choose a Christian preschool?

This question may be particularly difficult to answer, especially if you’re not sure whether you want your child learning Christian values and concepts. You may be exploring Christian preschools because of their location, affordability, educational reputation, or caring environment, even if your family practices a different faith or no faith at all.

In light of this tension, it’s important to address why Christian education is beneficial for every child, regardless of your family’s personal belief system. We’ve seen how families struggle to find a preschool or daycare which provides a holistic learning environment for their child. One where they are not just developed academically but personally.

For over 20 years we have specialized in Christian preschool education and daycare with a mission to build strong minds, bodies and Christlike Character in the children we educate. We understand that we are participating in who they become, not just what they know. That’s why we’ve created a guide outlining some of the benefits of a Christian preschool education. This guide is backed by scientific research which agrees with the results we’ve observed as a Christian institution.

What do Christian schools teach?

When Jesus Christ is asked what the greatest commandment is, he clearly states:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.

– Matthew 22:37-40

For Christians, these two principles, loving God and loving others, serve as the foundation for how we live, learn, and interact with the world. In many Christian preschools, these values shape the culture of the classroom. Children are encouraged to practice kindness, respect, honesty, forgiveness, and compassion in their daily interactions.

Why does this make Christian schools a good choice?

1. Character Development

Jesus’ statement is what shapes the fabric of most Christian preschools: “Love God. Love your neighbor.” Christian learning environments are founded on the understanding that the world is bigger than the individual, and that being kind and loving toward others is paramount.

This emphasis leads to an impeccable social culture. An article from Learning Environments Research found that the Christian preschool’s focus on connecting with peers in a loving way boosts children’s self-esteem, resilience, mental health and overall well-being. These are qualities which will move them through life not just academically, but socially. Within this loving context they are prepared for a life of deep meaning where they thrive in positive relationships and find purpose in an era when loneliness reigns.

2. Educational Excellence

The Lord Jesus commands his followers to love God with all their heart, soul and mind. For many Christian educators, this means encouraging academic excellence is not just moral, but an act of worship. The goal is not merely to produce knowledgeable students, but wise, thoughtful, compassionate, and intellectually engaged people.

The goal of education for the Christian is to nurture a human soul to be everything God has created them to be in thought, word and deed. A research article from the International Journal of Christianity & Education found that schools which intentionally integrate faith and academics often place high emphasis on academic rigor while also helping students think critically about ethics, meaning, and worldview.

As mentioned in our first point, Christian preschools have been proven to provide some of the best social environments for children to feel secure and confident. Recent research from AERA Open regarding the impact of school climates on education shows that this kind of positive school climate is directly linked to academic success. The article even found that positive environments like these decrease the negative influence of varying socioeconomic status on academic achievement.

The holistic view Christians take to education sets children up for success in every area of their young learning journey.

3. Caring Teachers & Staff

Jesus calls Christians to love their neighbor. This calling sets a trajectory for the Christian educator to not only live up to their job description, but to live up to Christ’s example: to love as he has loved us. How did Jesus love his people? He gave his life.

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

– John 10:11

This is the example Christian educators are led by. Scripture also commands us,

Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.

– 1 Peter 5:2-3

That’s why those who teach at a Christian preschool, even if they themselves are not practicing Christians, are encouraged to follow this call. Christian administrators uphold these commandments through those they hire and see they are lived out. Because of this, your child will feel deeply loved and cared for by their teachers and administration when they enter a Christian preschool.

For many families, this sense of care and personal connection becomes one of the most meaningful aspects of their preschool experience.

Is a Christian preschool right for your family?

Some families have had positive experiences with Christianity while others may have questions and reservations. Perhaps you have a negative association with Christianity due to interactions you’ve had with people who claim the faith. Maybe your reservations come from unfamiliarity with the claims of Christ. Or, maybe you are of a completely different faith and want to make sure your own traditions are honored.

Many Christian schools, including Kids Junction Preschool Learning Center, welcome families from diverse backgrounds and respect the important role parents play in guiding their children’s beliefs and values.

Our goal is not to replace your influence as a parent. Rather, we seek to partner with families by providing a safe, nurturing environment where children can grow academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

Ultimately, choosing a preschool is a personal decision. The right preschool should be a place where your child feels safe, loved, encouraged, and excited to learn.
